Learning to Take it Slow

One month out and I have not mastered the art of “taking it slow”.  On September 30th I worked my last full time shift at a place I had worked for nearly 30 years.  On October 1, just 12 hours later, we started a 6-month journey across the country.  The first 2-weeks were busy ones.  The first stop was in Indiana to get all the warranty work done on the RV.  We were here for 5-days and each day we needed to be up and out of the RV by 6am.  Let’s just say, this was not relaxing.  Once we left Indiana we headed west.  We detoured south from I-80 into Colorado to get to camping world to get the lights fixed on the tow car.  We decided to stay in Colorado for a week.  We had a great time in Colorado but when you are in a new place for 1-week you need to see it all.  We toured the Fort Collins area hard for 7-days, taking in the sites and hiking.  We both agree Colorado needs to be on a future trip.  Once we left Colorado we rushed to get to California.  We knew we were on the cusp of the seasons changing and we wanted to get to I-395 in California before the cold weather got there.  We arrived in Lee Vining, CA just in time to  get to through the Tioga Pass road and into Yosemite.  The road closed for the season 5-days after we made the trip.  We spent nearly 2-weeks exploring I-395 in California.  If you have been following our posts you know we explored non-stop for these 2-weeks.  This area is a great place to explore and I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to spend a couple of weeks in CA enjoying nature and hiking.  It would be an easy trip to take if you flew into Reno, NV and rented a car for 2-weeks.

A week and 1/2 ago we left I-395 and headed for Palm Springs.  The weather has been beautiful and in the 70’s-80’s most days.  We have been touring hard for the last 10 days. Yesterday it dawned on us that we have over 60 more days in this area and we are going to have to learn to pace ourselves.  We no longer need to see it all in 7-14 days, this is a new concept for me.  I think I’m going to have to plan out how to do this to make sure we are not taking off on a new trip every day.  We are trying to plan an outing every third day and making sure we are enjoying the resort like campground we are staying in.  We are taking advantage of the great weather and location and have started our winter workout plan.  The campground is a great place to get back into running.  A trip around the campground (perimeter and rows) is exactly 2.25 miles, and it’s flat!  There is a pool and hot tub and the grounds are beautiful with citrus trees and palm trees.  The citrus fruit will start to ripen in January and you are free to pick all you want for daily consumption.  There are grapefruits, oranges, lemons and limes.

I guess I could learn a lot from Gizmo.  He is loving sleeping in, lounging in the chairs outside under the awning and going for walks around the campground.  He thinks this “snowbird” life is the best!
